Fur
Introduction
Each year over 50 million animals are killed for their fur.
Fur is a common material used by the fashion industry. It is used in a variety of clothing products, from fur coats and scarves to fashion accessories which have a fur trim.
Many high fashion labels continue to include fur in their collections. Some of the most well known of these companies are Uggs, Juicy Couture, Chanel, Dolce Dabbana and Gucci.
In today’s world where image and style matter, the people and companies which continue to wear and sell fur realise the horror and truth of raising, trapping and killing animals for fur.

Looking beautiful and feeling good about your appearance shouldn't be associated with suffering and misery but that is what fur does. And although the fur industry would have you believe that the fur is obtained in the most humane manner, this is not true for animals on fur farms suffer a life of misery and a gory death for fashion.
Journey to hell
Animals raised for fur are imprisoned on 'fur farms' and are kept in conditions very similar to those that a battery hen endures. Minks, foxes, rabbits, chinchillas and other wild animals are crammed into barren wire cages where they remain until slaughter.
In China not only are trapped wild animals kept in these condition but dogs and cats also. Here they are fed a cannibalistic diet made up of the industries “waste” – the left over carcasses of their prisoners.

These highly intelligent and sensitive creatures are kept imprisoned yearlong; through the harsh and cold winter right up to the scorching hot summer. These animals exhibit symptoms of deep stress and mental breakdown throughout the entire ordeal.
Such stress induced psychological symptoms include increased aggression, self-mutilation, pacing and even cannibalising deceased cage mates.
Bloody Slaughter As consumers awareness and rejection of the fur industry is absolutely vital. People who wear fur and use it in their clothing need to be informed of the conditions and ruthless slaughter. Fur farmers killing techniques are a vital part of the education.
Fur farmers routinely use poison as a way of slaughter. In these scenarios fur farmers inject weed killer and strychnine amongst other toxic substances into an animals stomach to cause convulsion.
Other common and crude methods include anal and vaginal electrocution with a blunt metal rod, snapping of the neck and basic use of physical strength, such as repeatedly stamping the animals head.
Undercover video footage from dog and cat farms in China and other parts of Asia has revealed sickening footage of animals being skinned alive prior to being beaten to death. This occurs to all animals regardless of species in fur farms. It may be hard to imagine but if your companion animal was born in a different country and different circumstances he or she could easily have ended up in a similar situation.

Act Now
The easiest and most effective way to help stop the fur industry is to vote with your dollar. Here are some other ways you can help!
- Never purchase products made with fur or fur trim. Correctly labelled faux fur is equally fashionable but comes without any of the cruelty.
- If you come across fur being sold ask to speak to the manager of the store to explain the issues with fur. If the store is a chain it may be worth contacting their head office to let them know what’s wrong with fur and if you’re uncomfortable talking with people an email or letter is very helpful as well.
- Always boycott brands/labels that use fur and encourage them to adopt a fur free policy.
-
And last but not least educate people. Spread the word - tell your family and friends about the cruelty involved with the fur industry.
